Day 130

JANUARY 8, 2020

SEA DAY

For the second straight day there was no sunrise; the sky was covered with dark grey clouds from horizon to horizon. But wait! Suddenly a shaft of sunlight appeared, our hope was renewed. Happy ending.

THE LEAD STORY - As I walked my mile around the second deck this morning, I came across a brownish-black bird (a dove?), sitting on the ground near the wall. It was quite alive, moving its head but not stirring otherwise. It was either a stowaway (gimme a break), resting after a hard night's flight (really?), or, most likely it was stunned having accidentally crashed into the above window at night. I am not aware of the avian concussion protocol so, unfortunately I could not use it, nor was I prepared to administer mouth-to-beak medical attention. Clearly this is a job for Viking senior management.

Later, I returned to the bird and found that it had moved to under cover of some nearby stairs and was drinking water. What this bird was doing a thousand miles from land is a mystery. Maybe it's some sort of petrel.

"The Good the Bad and the Ugly" is a premier movie with a premium theme composed by Ennio Morricone. Let's listen to The Danish National Symphony Orchestra play it. Only a genius could compose such glorious and complex music!
