Torshavn, Faroe Islands

Image result for torshavn

Torshavn's longitude is 62 North (that's above the Arctic circle) the same as Yellowknife. To my surprise, Torshavn (population 21,000) is a fully modern city with all the amenities you might expect in Victoria. And it has a winter climate similar to Victoria's, though its summers are much cooler.

If you want picturesque, come to the Faroes. It is a land of mountains, valleys, houses with grass roofs and fjords. It is gorgeous. Otherwise 52,000 Faroese wouldn't be living on six basalt islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The ever-present mountains are covered in green, oh, and sheep too. We were lucky, it was mostly sunny today, but it had rained recently and that created thousands of waterfalls and rivulets all around us (reminiscent of Doubtful Sound in New Zealand). Tonight we dined at The Chef's Table.

Chef's Table is supposed to be the high end, the ultimate in specialized cuisine. The menus certainly get your attention. But, so far we have been disappointed at our four sittings. The courses are definitely fancy schmancy to the eye, but the palate invariably says no. If matters don't improve we will just cancel our future reservations. Luckily there are plenty of alternative restaurants on board.
