Day 12

INVERGORDON (THE HIGHLANDS)
This morning the first thing we saw on opening our curtains was a drilling rig. It is old and idle and might be junked soon unless the price of crude oil recovers.
INVERGORDON (THE HIGHLANDS)
This morning the first thing we saw on opening our curtains was a drilling rig. It is old and idle and might be junked soon unless the price of crude oil recovers.
Although we docked at cosy Invergordon, our ultimate destination was Inverness which lies a few miles from the east end of Loch Ness. On our way to Inverness we passed through Alness, the prettiest little town in Scotland, a reputation which it earned because it is the perennial Champion of the Great British High Street Awards. Reminds me of Government Street in Victoria. The photo does no do justice.
Just returned from our Crystal cruise to Alaska and enjoyed reading your comments. We could relate re the rich food - it was nice to get home and enjoy some soul food. Will compare thoughts on Dover (the castle and underground tunnels) vs your tour to Canterbury. hope you checked out Uncle Oscar (Wilde) while in Dublin. Liverpool was a pleasant surprise to us several years ago - we expected a dump but discovered, as you did, a charming waterfront area and heard they had just received the cultural award for Europe. We recall Belfast as being a bit rough around the edges but we did discover a n old and very charming pub where we enjoyed our very first Guinness and the numerous characters inside. We really enjoyed Edinburgh and lucked out too. While at the castle, we were shuffled over to the roadside and soon thereafter witnessed a full fledged military tattoo -WOW. Although it was sprinkling later, it didn't damper our enthusiasm. We also enjoyed a tour of the Britannia yacht and walking the Golden Mile. Your blog is reviving memories of past cruises/bus trips. So hope you're both doing well and looking forward to future blogs on your exciting world cruise. Cheers, Cliff & Heather
