SHETLAND ISLAND (LERWICK)
This beautiful treeless island is covered with heather and peat as well as innumerable ponds. Impressively clean and well organized, Lerwick city seems far more substantial than its 7,500 inhabitants. Fishing and sheep farming are the primary occupations of the island's 23,000 residents. There is a Viking history that dates back the Stone Age, and there is evidence that they still visit here:
Also, Shetland is the home of the iconic Shetland Pony. Carol Fuller's ponies are the center of attention at this stop.
