Days 46 and 47

October 15 - 16, 2019

SEA DAYS

Have you seen this bit of news? It shows the downside of being subject to the elements when cruising the seven seas. When Zeus gets angry, beware!

Tuesday morning awoke sunny and warm threatening to be hot later - bring it on!
At breakfast one of the restaurant managers brought to our attention that the kitchen staff had set up an entirely separate meusli section. And what a spread - almost a dozen types of meuslis that incorporate dried berries and fruits; dozens of bowls of fresh fruits, berries, nuts, grains, yogurt. Add milk and brown sugar or maple syrup and you have a day's worth of nutrition. What a treat!

One cruise reviewer said that people cruise to eat. Well, we have never had a finer dining experience while cruising than what is provided by this ship. The variety and the quality of food, the friendly attention by staff, the relaxed atmosphere, the spaciousness of the dining areas, all these things contribute to a pampered and satisfying life on board. And, no, this is not a paid ad. Now I see why Conde Nast always rates Viking Ocean Cruises number one.

Coincidentally, at lunch today we met a couple who have taken 35 cruises. They said the food on the Viking Sun is the best they have ever experienced, "including Crystal".

Although hurricane season hasn't ended yet, the Atlantic is almost like glass today, not a whitecap in sight. Did you know that the geography atlas is named after the Greek god Atlas who is depicted holding up the sky? And the Atlantic Ocean is also named after him.

Era is a new-age music group that produced a tune appropriate to our status at sea titled, "Flowers of the Sea". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZeqAClLqV8

Wednesday - unknowingly, we had breakfast with a retired Calgary couple who previously were work associates at KPMG with our retired neighbours, the Mulkins - small world.

There is a new buzzword making the rounds on the ship - "ho-ho"! It stands for "hop on - hop off" passengers who only spend two weeks on the Viking Sun.

The temperature at noon is 30 degrees C and we are motoring at 15.4 knots.

The next eight days we are on Caribbean islands, beginning with Antigua.
