SEA DAY

What can I say about another day cruising the Saint Lawrence River toward the Gaspe? In truth sea days are at least as welcome as days careering on land from one place to another. Ship days are less hectic, they are relaxed.

Today was fairly routine. Karen and I took our usual energetic walk around the deck before breakfast, we breakfasted, Karen knitted and later played Mahjong, I attended a bridge lesson and later played duplicate bridge, I worked out in the gym, then took a sauna. We checked out the new 2000 piece jigsaw puzzle and found a few pieces that fit. We had cocktails with a newly met couple (Tom is 91, Marilyn is 85) and we jointly decided to have dinner together. Since the dinner idea was spontaneous, we went to The World Cafe which is buffet style and where reservations are not necessary.

The Cafe's multitude of offerings was astounding today - clam chowder (yum, two servings), fried sole fillet, fillet mignon, lamb tenderloin (who even knew they existed) escargot (wow), king crab, lobster tails, pasta any way you want, plus all the vegetables, sauces and incidentals you might want.  Then there's the dessert section - don't get me started.

I know this sounds like a paid commercial, but words don't do it justice. Trust me.

Karen and I read a lot. I just finished reading "Killers of the Flower Moon" by David Grann (it is rated Best Book of the Year by numerous critics including Time Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and many more). Highly recommended. Karen recommends The Stepney Doorstep Society by Kate Thompson - the unsung and remarkable stories of the women who held London's East End together during not one, but two world wars. You might want to check out the reviews of these two books.
