Day 64
NOVEMBER 2, 2019
PARINTINS, BRAZIL
On the route to Parintins, an island in the Amazon River with a population of 115,000, our expectations were fairly low. However, like Saguenay, Quebec, the locals put on a show that can only be described as spectacular. Viking had done its research and knew that something special was here, the Boi Bomba Festival which takes place in late June. Viking convinced the organizers of the festival to give us a special showing at an indoor theatre. There must have been well over a hundred dancers, sometimes 25 at a time, and all the costumes were unique and exquisitely intrincate. The floats were up to 20 feet tall and many were topped by a dancer. Of course, a few photos will not convey the explosive non-stop nature of the presentation nor the impact of the loud, drum-led music, but here are a couple anyways:
But Wait! There is so much more to the whole story about Boi Bumba, but there isn't room in this blog to describe it. However, there is a video that explains everything. "Now you know the rest of the story".

As we are deep into Brazil what music could be more appropriate than Ennio Morricone's "Gabriel's Oboe".https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WJhax7Jmxs
